Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Kosteri' (hinoki cypress)
Hinoki cypress is native to Japan. For it to survive it needs full sunlight but can tolerate light to dappled shade.
It adapts to a variety well-drained of soils, from sandy sites to clay. Moreover it can tolerate drought.
Also it requires pruning only when a branh is dead, broken or poorly formed, since heavy pruning can ruin its unique appearance.
