Quercus suber (Cork Oak)
Cork oak is a medium size evergreen oak. It got its name from the cork production as it is produced from the bark of the tree.Trees are commercially grown in plantations in several European and African countries, most notably in Portugal and being harvested/ stripped when they reached 30-40 yeas. Other than the commercial value the tree is very attractive as an ornamental. It has a leather toothed shine leaves and thick deeply fissured corky bark. At fall it produces acorns. Can be used in urban condition as a specimens. Avoid using it as a street trees due to the surface rooting potential.
