Plant Profile

Dahlia X hybrida (Dahlia)

Most dahlias are bushy plants, with varying sizes, have deeply lobed leaves in shades of green and sometimes burgundy and dark purple. They are carefully organized into groups defined by floral size and floral form. There are at least 20 different flower form group. Dahlias grow from rhizomes which were used as a food and medicinal support for people in Mexico and Central Americas. Used as bedding plants. In cold climate, rhizomes need to be removed during winter, kept above 0C and can be replanted in the Spring.
