Plant Profile

Agave americana 'Green' (American Agave, American Century Plant)

The American century plant is a succulent that has large leaves that can attain 2 meters long. The leaves are green or blue green, and they have spiky margins. During summer, they produce yellow fragrant flowers that attract birds and bats. For a plant to bloom it may take very long, up to 35 years sometimes.

American agave is a heat and drought tolerant plant. It requires full sun, and well drained, poor soils to grow.
