Eriobotrya deflexa (Bronze Loquat)
Bronze Loquat is a small, evergreen tree, whose large leaves are a bright bronze colour when young, eventually turning to dark green. It produces small, white, and fragrant flowers in spring. It has a shrubby form but can be trained into a small tree form. If branches are not pruned, they will droop under the weight. It does best in full sun and alkaline soil. It can tolerate partial shade, and it can grow in clay soils as long as there is sufficient drainage. It should be well-watered when established, but can endure drought afterwards. Overfertilization increases sensitivity fireblight, which is a common problem in the species.
