Averrhoa carambola (carambola, star fruit)

Star fruit is a tropical semi- evergreen tree from Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Slow growing tree reaching 5-7 m at maturity. A fragrant pink flower appears in spring followed by an orange - yellow  star shaped fruit.Carambola needs full  and well drain soil. Does not take alkaline soil well. They don't tolerate cold or hot, dry winds. The average temperature the tree needs is 20-35C. Below 20  the tree will stop growing.  Fruit is eaten fresh or pickled.
