Plant Profile

Acca sellowiana (Feijoa, Guava, Feijoa, Pineapple Guava)

Fejowa is a gray-green evergreen shrub or tree which produces small, tasty fruit in late summer and early fall. The leaves are leathery, bit hairy fuzzy on the bottom. Edible flowers are fleshy with many scarlet to purple stamens and four cupped petals. The oval to pear-shaped fruit is green, occasionally with a rosy blush. Fruit is best when left to mature on the shrub then consume it. Pineapple guava is tolerant of most soils as long as it is well drained. Full sun is best for flower and fruit production, but the shrub grows very well in part shade .The plants can be pruned to form a hedge or a small tree and will withstand several degrees below freezing. It’s also good as a specimen, fruit tree or container plants.
