Plant Profile

Dieffenbachia species (Dumbcane)

Dumb cane is native to tropical America, Brazil. All parts of this plant are poisonous if eaten and its sap may cause skin irritation. It is commonly grown as a houseplant. The leaves are large, waxy and mottled with white, cream or yellow. Flowers and fruits don’t have any importance. Needs to planted in bright but never direct sunlight. Can resist some drought. A rich, moist and well-drained soil is perfect. Snails and slugs may find dumb-cane leaves especially tasty. Could be planted outdoor with extremely warm-hot conditions otherwise used as indoor plant.
