Plant Profile

Pedilanthus tithymaloides (Devil's Backbone, Japanese Poinsettia)

Devil's Backbone is a shrubby, perennial succulent, having a nice looking folliage, and a red to purple-red flowers during summer. Its stem has an attractive zigzag shape. The milky latex present in the plant is highly irritating and should stay away of mouth and eyes.

To be planted in well-drained soil, in full to partial sun. In hot summer afternoons, shade is prefered to protect the plant, as well as maintaining a moist soil.
