Plant Profile

Stenocarpus sinuatus (Firewheel Tree)

Firewheel is a native tree for Australia where it grows in the subtropical or tropical regions. The leaves are glossy deeply lobed, but it can be quite variable among trees. 10-20 reddish flowers are arranged in a umbel giving a very unique look for the tree. After flowering a boat shaped fruits appear with winged seeds inside. The plants prefer warm climate but can withstand -2 C for a short period when its matured. Also can be grown in dry Mediterranean countries with a bit of extra irrigation. Use it as a specimen or street tree as its not shredding leaves and not creating any litter problem.
