Amelanchier alnifolia (serviceberry, Saskatoon)

A multi-stemmed shrub that has white fragrant flowers, that emerge just before the small green oval leaves, and attract birds and butterflies. Its fruit is sold and can be used in baked goods which ripen in early summer. It has a red, dark grey branch with a distinctive scent. In the fall it has interesting foliage color.
