Syringa vulgaris (Common lilac)
Lilac is an upright deciduous shrub up to 2.5 m with a medium growth rate. The leaves are simple, ovate without any fall color change. The shrub doesn’t look like much when they are not in bloom, but in late spring to early summer they become an essence to the garden. The flowers appearing mid spring early summer depending on the weather. The very fragranced flowers are borne in large terminal panicles mainly lavender, lilac in color but there are so many different varieties with different flower colors. Next year's flower buds are set shortly after blooming, so lilacs must be pruned directly after their yearly display. The fruit has no landscape value. Lilacs are easy-to-grow and do best in full sun and average slightly acidic soil with good drainage. Used for borders, mass plantation or as a specimen.
