Pinus halepensis (Aleppo pine)
"Two wild Pine species, the Aleppo and the Brutian Pines, grow in Lebanon in pure or mixed pine-oak forests at elevations up to 1800 meters above sea level. The trees can be up to 25 meters high, and their canopies are round, flat topped, or open, with irregular branches. The shapes of trees growing along the coast are often distorted by the wind. The two species are similar except for slight differences in cone shape and arrangement relative to the stem. The cone of the Aleppo Pine is attached to the branch by a stalk, and it grows parallel to the branch. The Brutian Pine cone has no stalk, and it grows perpendicular to the branch. Both Aleppo and Brutian Pines are native to Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean.Aleppo Pine is less cold-tolerant than Brutian Pine and its distribution is restricted to the southern part of the country"
