Azadirachta indica (Neem tree)
Neem tree is native to tropcal dry areas such as India or Burma. The tree according to seasons might be evergreen or deciduous as it looses its leaves in drought condition. It has dark green compound leaves and very fragrant white flowers late spring. The fruit is an olive like drupe. This drought-tolerant tree is grown to prevent soil erosion and to help in soil conservation and improvement. Other than the that almost every part of the tree has some uses. Durable wood is used for furniture and lumber. Leaves and bark are used in teas, cosmetics, toothpaste, pet care and medicinal preparations. Dried leaves are used to deter moth. Twigs are used as tooth brushes. Neem oil is a botanical insecticide, repellent and fungicide. In landscape the tree is used in hot and dry climates where is can withstand drought and heat. It has invasive potential.
