Plant Profile

Alternanthera dentata (Joseph's coat, Calico Plant, Joyweed)

Joseph's coat is a tropical perennial with lance-shaped tooth-edged leaves that are purple. It is frost sensitive and grows as a perennial only where it is very warm; elsewhere, it grows as an annual. It enjoys full sun and heat. The soil should never be allowed to dry.
