Carpobrotus edulis (Ice Plant)
Ice plant is a commonly used ground cover in the hot and arid region It is a summer blooming perennial which can grow in drought and in salty condition.The succulent leaves are narrow and held upright matte green. The mature leaves turn red with age. In addition to its light yellow and pale pink flowers, the highway ice plant also yields edible, fig-like fruits late in the season. The plant grows best ion dry sandy soil where it have very good drainage. Too much water or fertilizer will kill this plant. This [plant is a perfect ground cover for coastal location, rock gardens or rooftop gardens.
