Dimocarpus longan (longan, longyan)

Dense shade tree produces a cluster of sweet, spicy edible fruits is originated from China. often compared to lychees in taste and appearance. Pinnate leaves are evergreen, in spring many tiny but very fragrant flowers are pollinated by bees or butterflies. Clusters of mature fruits hang from the branches by summer’s end , each fruit is the size of a ping-pong ball and has a smooth skin that easily peels inside translucent flesh with an amazing spicy, flowery, sweet flavor. The tree can withstand a bit of frost after maturity. For better fruit production plant it in a warm winter areas and add plenty of water in the first few years.
