Peltophorum pterocarpum (Copperpod, Yellow Flame Tree, Yellow Jacaranda)
Peltophorum pterocarpum has an umbrella-domed canopy, it is fast-growing and evergreen. The flowering occurs twice annually: the first in late spring or early summer and a second in early autumn. Golden yellow flowers come out of the bud; they are short lived and smell faintly of grapes at night.
Yellow Flame Tree is native to tropical southern and southeastern Asia, from Sri Lanka to the Philippines, and to the north coast of Australia. For it to grow properly, it needs full sun and well-drained soil. It is a good choice for urban alkaline soils that are dry. This species also is highly tolerant of coastal salt spray conditions.
